About Yoodo
What is Yoodo?
Yoodo is the first port of call for anybody requiring disability information. Whether you’re a carer, have a disability yourself, or just want some information, Yoodo is the place for you! Registration is free and allows you to comment, give feedback, and chat to others about your situation.
Who is behind Yoodo?
Yoodo is an initiative from Leonard Cheshire Disability, a charity that exists to provide people with a disability the opportunities to live the life they want to.

Where can I find out about the latest developments on Yoodo?
The official Yoodo blog is the place to keep up to date with our plans for the site. We write regular updates there about Yoodo, including tips on how to make the most of the website.

Registration and membership
Do I need to register to use Yoodo?
No. You can view all the information on Yoodo without registering. However, to make use of the some of the features of Yoodo, such as adding comments, or writing a blog, you will need to register for a user name and password. We take your privacy very seriously and we will not use your details to send you unwanted emails or pass your details on to others.
What are the benefits of registering?
Registration is free, quick and simple. By registering, you gain access to some of the best features of Yoodo, such as the ability to comment on news stories and information resources, and to join groups with other members where you can discuss the subjects that matter most to you. You also have the option to set up a profile to tell people about yourself.
How do I edit my profile?
When you are logged in to Yoodo, you are able to edit your profile wherever you are, by clicking ‘Edit your member profile’ in the member panel on the left hand side of the screen.
How is my privacy protected?
We will not share your details with third parties or with other Yoodo members and we will not send you unsolicited emails about Yoodo. For more information, please see our Privacy Policy [link].
Will my information be shared with others?
No. You can choose to provide more information in your profile about yourself if you wish, but Yoodo will not share your information with others. We do advise caution in handing out any personal information such as addresses or telephone numbers.
What information can other members see about me?
Other members can see your name and blog postings you have made. If you choose to add additional information in your profile, others will see this too.
Login and password problems
What happens if I forget my user name or password?
Don’t worry - if you can’t remember your user name or password, we will email a reminder to the email address in your member profile. Use the ‘Forgotten your user name or password?’ option on the Member login panel located on the left of the screen.
Can I change the email address I used when registering?
No. Because of the way our registration process is set up, you will have to re-register if you wish to change your email address. For more information or assistance please email info@yoodo.org.
Accessibility
What is Yoodo’s accessibility policy?
Yoodo has been designed and constructed with the needs of all users in mind, regardless of impairment or need.
This website complies with many of the W3C’s Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), including AA and some AAA checkpoints. It has undergone extensive testing by the charity AbilityNet and we hope we have met your needs. We recognise that the web is continuously evolving and that’s why we would like your help.

What accessibility tools does Yoodo offer?
Images: alternative text, sometimes known as alt text or alt attributes, are available on all images. This means that if you hover your mouse over an image, a text description will come up. This can also be read by screen readers.
Content: our content has been written in simple language to make it easily understood by as many people as possible.
Design features: you can access a highly accessible version of this site by clicking the ‘Change text size’ button at the top of every page. The content is the same but the accessible version of the site has been designed to enable you to access it whatever your requirements.
You have the option to change font size, and the colour of the site to black on white, black on yellow or, colour.

Rating
What do the stars next to stories mean?
Stories are assigned between one and five stars. Stars indicate how other members have rated a story. The more stars, the higher the average rating given to the story.
Can I rate a story?
If you are a member of Yoodo and are logged in, you can rate any news story, blog entry or information resource. You may only rate a particular story once.
Rating is an important part of Yoodo - it allows members to tell others about the best or most important stories or resources published. It also helps the team at Yoodo understand the content that matters most to you, so we can make Yoodo even more useful to you.
How is my rating used?
We will review the news stories and information resources that are most popular so we have a better understanding of which topics matter most to our members.
Commenting
How do I add a comment?
You can add comments to most content on Yoodo. You need to be a member and you will need to be logged in. To find out how to become a member, read our ‘Registration and membership’ section.
Are comments moderated?
Yes. We monitor comments posted on Yoodo to check that offensive or inaccurate content is not posted. If you find content that you believe to be offensive, you can make a complaint and we will review the comment.
- How can I complain about a comment I think is offensive?
You can contact us if you believe a comment is offensive or inappropriate. To contact us please contact us stating the location of the comment and your reason for wanting it removed. - How do I delete a comment?
You can only delete comments you have made yourself. If you want to delete a comment, please click the link which says ‘delete comment’.
If you want to report an offensive comment, please contact us and state the location of the comment and your reason for wanting it removed.

The News section contains disability-related news sourced from a range of high quality sources. If there is a story you would like us to cover, please email us on info@yoodo.org.
Who provides news content for Yoodo?
News content is mainly provided by DirectNews, with additional stories included if deemed to be relevant or of interest to Yoodo members.
How can I contribute and get involved?
If you have a news story that you think may be of interest to other members, you can write a blog entry about it, or suggest a news story directly to Yoodo by emailing info@yoodo.org.

This section of Yoodo contains authoritative information and advice about disability-related issues, including impairments, employment and the law.
Who provides the content for Information?
Information resources are provided by a range of charitable organisations, businesses and governmental departments. If a specific partner has provided a particular page of content, the partner will be clearly displayed on that page. Current partners include the following:

Blogs
Blogs are the place for you to share your thoughts with others. We want to hear about your own experiences. Our aim is to give everyone with an interest in disability the option to share with and learn from each other.

Our rating system has been designed to provide feedback on topics.
You must be a Yoodo member and be logged in to write a blog entry. Click on the ‘Write a blog entry’ link in the member panel to get started.
How do I comment on another member’s blog?
First you need to sign in using your username and password. Once you have done this you can comment on any member’s blog.
Search the web
Search brings together many disability-related websites so that you can search them at the same time, right from Yoodo.

In your area
‘In your area’ enables members to search for accessible services in their local area. It provides information about the accessibility of these services.

The content for ‘In your area’ is provided by our partners at Direct Enquiries.
Groups
Groups enable members to collaborate and discuss topics that really matter to them. Members can join as many or as few groups as they wish and write blog entries or comments on entries written by other members of the group.
You can join a group by clicking on the ‘Join’ link under each group
Yes you can. To create a new group, select ‘Create a new group’ from the member panel which is located on the left hand side of the page.
How can I see who else is in a group?
Once you are a member of a group, you can see other members by clicking on ‘View members’
