Being your own boss brings with it many rewards. Benefits such as flexible working hours, the great sense of personal achievement and the opportunity to develop new skills whilst learning all aspects of running a business are just some reasons for escaping the 9-5 grind.
However, with 50% of disabled people of working age being unemployed it is likely that the ‘9-5′ isn’t a common experience in the first place. Often being your own boss is the only realistic option for disabled people to enter the work force and earn an independent living. Research has shown that the most common reason for disabled people to start their own business is the flexibility it offers. The ability to independently manage their workload in relation to their disability allows them a better quality of life whilst avoiding the pitfalls of unsympathetic employers and the stress of working to an organisation’s own rules.
This section of Yoodo is designed to offer advice to people who are thinking of setting up their own business. We’ve got case studies on disabled entrepreneurs who have set up successful businesses; places to go to, to look for funding and information on what to consider before taking the leap!
