The National Federation of Enterprise Agencies (NFEA)

A large percentage of enterprise agencies are members of the National Federation of Enterprise Agencies. The federation is a network of organisations that offer an array of services to new and emerging businesses, including independent and impartial advice, training and mentoring.

Their site is easy to navigate and contains a list of Local Enterprise Agencies (LEAs), which can be searched by region.

Capital Enterprise

Capital Enterprise is a membership body for deliverers of enterprise support in London. It has 3 core remits:

  • Internally, it is a membership body with a service offer to its members.
  • Externally, it is a representative body championing small business.
  • It has a programme management arm for national contracts targeting London.

DD Enterprise Centre

The DD Enterprise Centre was set up In November 2009, it is the only business centre specifically aimed at supporting people with long term health conditions and disabled people to start up, and sustain their own businesses in the country.

They have 7 units to let as office space (for disabled people and those with long term health conditions) and virtual offices (for everyone’s use) with the added bonus of onsite corporate support and mentoring support to help budding businesses really take off!

InBiz: National Reach, Local Touch

InBiz supports Start-Ups, Micro-Businesses & SMEs across the UK. Operating from strategic locations across the nation, the company focuses on enterprise creation and neighbourhood regeneration.

Sandwell Women’s Enterprise Development Agency

SWEDA was established in 1989 as a non-profit making limited company. It was set up to provide business advice, training and support for disadvantaged women. SWEDA targets women contemplating employment, self employment and those already in business. SWEDA’s main target groups are women who are lone parents, on low incomes, women from minority ethnic communities, and those from socially excluded groups.

Mentors’ Den

Mentors’ Den is an organisation based in Cornwall that was set-up to assist disabled people start their own business. They do this in many ways such as: providing free support from trained business mentors, facilitating access to a forum that will enable you to communicate with other entrepreneurs and assistance through other resources that will cover all facets of running a small business.  

The organisation’s objectives are:

  • To provide networking opportunities among self-employed disabled people and those setting up and running their own small businesses.
  • Signpost opportunities for accessible and appropriate training and development.
  • Identify and share a ‘best practice’ on self-employment and small business management with disabled people.
  • Assist in looking at strategic issues around disability, small business management and self-employment.
