Communication Matters
Communication Matters is a national charitable organisation made up of members concerned with the augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) needs of people with complex communication needs.
The Communication Matters Road Show is a valuable opportunity to learn about communication aid technology ‘straight from the horse’s mouth’. A number of the UK’s leading suppliers of adaptive devices, voice output communication aids, and signing systems will demonstrate and provide ‘mini-master classes’ on their latest products and services.

Mountcastle
The Mountcastle Silent Bell uses existing house lights to give a clear visual signal throughout the house to indicate that there are people at the door. It is easy to install and operate. Pressure on the bell push causes the house lights in any or all of the rooms to operate, day or night. This device links the house electric light circuit and the bell circuit.
The standard range can also be complemented with add-on which can signal when the telephone rings or the fire alarm is activated.

Remap
Remap has a network of skilled volunteers who design specialist equipment to meet the needs of disabled people. Unlike mainstream products, each item is tailor-made for individuals.
The organisation has 85 panels across England, Wales and Northern Ireland and helps over 3000 people with disabilities each year. (There is a map indicating the location of the panels.)
RoboBraille
The RoboBraille service is an e-mail-service capable of translating your documents to and from contracted Braille to synthetic speech.
RoboBraille e-mail accounts are used by submitting a document for example; a text file, a Word document, or an HTML page as an e-mail attachment. The translation is returned to via e-mail, typically within a matter of minutes. All files are handled confidentially and are deleted from the server as soon as your translation is received.
The RoboBraille service is available free of charge to all non-commercial users.

SMART Thinking provides information on the use of technology to support older and disabled people, person-centred design, architecture and the home. The site aims to promote critical thinking on the use of technology and the DIRC approach to designing appropriate acceptable technological solutions for disabled or older people which meet their unique specific needs.

The TSA is a public source of information on the Telecare industry and the services it currently provides to individual users. The website provides links to regional and local communities social alarm services. Telecare is a service which helps to protect and support people in their own homes.
